There's a pretty incredible multi-part piece from the Washington Post about the "fourth branch of government" that is the intelligence community (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/top-secret-america/) and it mentioned that there are about 854,000 people with Top Secret(highest public) security clearances, and all it takes is one disenchanted knucklehead to leak information, and the Afghan War Diary info was a lower security classification.  To try and turn this into a political issue is asinine and missing the point.

Once again you're showing you're a stupid motherfucker that never reads a goddamn thing.  The two quotes I posted that I said I agreed with were quotes from a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institute(a conservative think tank), and, a prominent Republican strategist that was also a senior staff member for GWB.  How about reading something and posting your thoughts first before listening talk radio and having them tell you what your opinion should be, you dumbfuck.  I bet you can't even understand the quotes I posted unless some guy on the radio reads them out loud and explains them to you.

The two main issues are 1) what do you do with the person(s) who leaks confidential information, and 2) where do you draw the line between classified data/national security vs the public's right to know.  Let me explain my positions to you in simplified terms - 1) The little dipshit army intel guy that leaked the info should be put up on treason/court martial charges for every piece of information he leaked, so 91,000 counts of treason, yes.  2) Confidentiality exists for a reason and the public doesn't have a right to know and the media should not have a right to access classified data.  However just because data is classfiied and not in public view doesn't mean the military can break the law at will.  Military personnel must be held liable for crimes they commit.  Abu Ghraib is an example of classified info getting out to the public that caused a shitstorm where most of the people involved ended up being convicted, but that should have all happened in-house regardless of whether or not the public ever found out about it.

There's a difference between supporting the military and supporting crime.  I support the military but I don't support criminals that use the uniform they're wearing as an excuse or justification to commit a crime.
